FORMER Barnsley and Leeds United manager Paul Heckingbottom has been appointed boss of Sheffield United's U23s.
The 43-year-old, who managed Hibernian last season, replaces Andrew Hughes, who was sacked by the Blades in June after just one season with the club.
Academy Manager Jack Lester said: "Paul is a fantastic coach and a great appointment for the club. He brings a wealth of experience to the Academy and we are delighted to have secured his services.
“We have some excellent prospects coming through in the next few years and it is vital we have top coaches, like Paul, and Derek Geary, who remains lead coach for the U18s, to develop them."
Heckingbottom led Barnsley to promotion to the Championship before finishing 14th in the division in 2016/17. He was in charge of Leeds from February to June 2018, before being replaced by Marcelo Bielsa.
