David Woodfine is returning to Liverpool as their Assistant Sporting Director - a year after leaving the club.
Woodfine exited his role as Liverpool's Director of Loan Management in May 2023 after nine years’ service at Anfield. He had originally joined the club in October 2014 as Scouting and Recruitment Manager and went on to become Head of Football Projects and Scouting (from October 2017) and Director of Loan Management (from December 2020).
His return to Liverpool follows that of Michael Edwards, with whom he had worked throughout his previous years at the club. Last month it was announced that Edwards - who had worked for the Reds for a decade up to the summer of 2022, latterly as Sporting Director - had been appointed CEO of Football for owners Fenway Sports Group.
Woodfine will be the assistant to new Sporting Director Richard Hughes, who is currently serving his notice period at Bournemouth. Woodfine also worked alongside Edwards at Portsmouth - when he was Performance Analyst and Edwards was Head of Performance Analysis. Hughes was a player at the club at the same time.
Hughes will be bringing Bournemouth Chief Scout Mark Burchill and Scout Craig McKee with him when he joins Liverpool at the end of the season.
