FORMER Barnsley, Leeds and Ipswich Head of Sports Science Nathan Winder has been appointed lead strength and conditioning coach at newly promoted Sheffield United.

Winder forged his reputation with hometown club Barnsley, playing a key role in their promotion to the Championship in 2016.

In total he spent almost nine years at Oakwell, which was in stark contrast to his subsequent roles at Leeds and Ipswich, which each lasted just five months.

At Sheffield United, he will work under Head of Sports Science Matt Prestridge - who doubles up as first team coach - with assistance from rehab specialist Lee McMahon and nutritionist Lee Rickards.

The Blades are bolstering their performance department following automatic promotion back to the Premier League last season.
