STEPHEN TORPEY has been appointed Head of Coaching for the Under-15s to 23s by Manchester City.
The position had been vacant since Simon Davies left to become Vincent Kompany’s assistant at Anderlecht in May 2019. Torpey, who joined City from Liverpool in June 2014, has been Head of Coaching for the U6s to U12s since December 2017.
“The change of age groups will certainly give me a new challenge and this is something that I am extremely excited about,” he said on LinkedIn.
“Working with elite professionals, trying to maximise their potential, being there to support them along their journey is something I am very passionate about and this role with give me the platform to do just that.
“I am grateful to the senior leaders in the football club who have shown faith in me to lead our player and coach development pathways.”
City will soon start the recruitment process for a Head of Coaching for the U9s to U14s, TGG understands. Unlike most clubs, the Etihad outfit split the Head of Coaching role in two.
The Academy is currently undergoing something of an overhaul, with new U18 and U23 coaches to be appointed before the start of next season. Jason Wilcox is the club's Academy Manager, while Ceri Bowley has been Head of Coaching Support since July 2019.
