Roden replaces Rhodes as Burnley restructure medical and performance

Damian Roden has replaced David Rhodes as Head of Performance at Burnley as the club instigate a major restructure of performance and medical for 2024/25.
Rhodes joined the Clarets in September 2022 and headed up a unified department. He has now been replaced by Roden, the former Head of Sport Science for clubs including Manchester City, Stoke City, Wales, Minnesota United, Anderlecht and Wales.
The Welshman has a close relationship with former Burnley boss Vincent Kompany and his assistant Craig Bellamy, having worked with them for Manchester City and Anderlecht (and, in the case of Bellamy, for Wales as well). TGG understands this is how the Burnley move came about, although Kompany and Bellamy have subsequently left Turf Moor.
Meanwhile, Matt Radcliffe has come in to replace Mark Sertori as Head of Player Performance and Medical. Sertori, who worked for Manchester City for almost 15 years before joining Burnley in June 2023, has now been appointed Director of Performance at Italian giants AS Roma.
Radcliffe is highly experienced, having worked in medical for clubs including Middlesbrough, Manchester United, Fenerbahce and Seattle Sounders. Ritson Lloyd, the former Head Physio at Swansea City, has come in as physio at Burnley.
There have been several other departures at Burnley too:
- Bram Geers (Performance Coach): Joined club with Kompany, having previously worked with him at Anderlecht.
- Haytham Salem (Doctor): Joined in November 2023, having previously been Everton's doctor from 2017 to 2023.
- Josh Jeffrey (Head Physio): Arrived in June 2024, replacing the long-serving Phil Pomeroy. Had previously worked for Everton for seven years.
