THE Premier League has announced that its games programme from Under-9s to U23s is being cancelled this season, meaning there will be no conclusion to Premier League 2 or the U18 Premier League.

“The methodology for determining the final league standings and outcomes for the season will be decided at a future date”, while fixtures for 2020/21 will not begin any earlier “than would usually be expected.”

This season’s FA Youth Cup, which is at the semi-final stage, has not yet been cancelled. Blackburn Rovers are due to face Manchester City in one semi, while Chelsea take on Manchester United in the other.

Chelsea were top of Premier League 2 Division 1 - the elite U23 competition - with four matches of the campaign left to play. Leicester City were second and Brighton third.

In Division 2, where one team goes up automatically and a second is promoted via play-offs, West Ham were top and Manchester United second.

In the U18s, Manchester City topped the North Division, while Fulham led the South.

Manchester United Academy Manager Nick Cox said: “We will continue to support our young players’ football development and mental wellbeing during this time and look forward to welcoming them back to full time training when this is possible.

“Our young players have continued to engage with their football and education programmes at home and that will stand them in great stead when it is safe to return to training.”
