Jacobsen joined Liverpool from Aspetar in June 2018

PHILIPP JACOBSEN, Liverpool’s Medical Rehabilitation and Performance Manager, is leaving the club after little more than two years.
The German joined in June 2018 from the Aspetar hospital in Qatar, where he had headed up the specialist team dealing with the treatment of elite foreign athletes.
Prior to his time at Aspetar he worked as a physio for Panathinaikos (2001-4), for Portsmouth (2005) and with the Qatar national team.
Jacobsen is now on gardening leave and emailed his Liverpool colleagues to tell them: “I would like to inform all of you that me and my family have taken the decision to relocate back to Germany.
“I will still be working on the projects I have started around education and new training ground but will be based more in Germany than in the uk.
“It has been a fantastic two years working with some of the most knowledgeable and professional people I have met in my career and I am certain LFC has got one of the best performance/ medical/ nutrition departments in the Prem.
“Wish you all the best and we will be in touch.”
Liverpool begin 2020/21 with a very different medical team than they had at the start of last season, when they went on to win the Premier League. Long-standing Head of Medical Andy Massey left in March to join Fifa, leading to doctor Jim Moxon stepping up from the Academy.
Arsenal’s Gary O’Driscoll had agreed to take the job, only to later have a change of heart. Physios Richie Partridge and Christopher Rohrbeck have departed, with Chris Morgan returning to the club from Arsenal to fill the void.
