GERMAN Philipp Jacobsen has been appointed to the new position of medical rehabilitation and performance manager by Liverpool.

Since 2017, Jacobsen has headed up a specialist team dealing with the treatment of elite foreign athletes at the Aspetar hospital in Qatar.

Liverpool’s Adam Lallana is among the top players to have attended, in October 2017. Jacobsen will now work in tandem with Dr Andrew Massey, the Reds’ Head of Medical.

Jacobsen has previously worked as a physio for Greek side Panathinaikos (2001-4) and for Portsmouth (2005).

He worked as Aspetar's senior physio from 2007 to 2015 before moving on to work with the Qatar national team until 2017. He then headed up the specialist team caring for elite foreign athletes visiting Aspetar, mainly from football and athletics.

Liverpool sacked their head physio Andy Renshaw last October and the role has been filled on an interim basis by Matt Konopinski since then.
