NEWCASTLE UNITED have appointed Manchester City’s Paul McLaren as their Head of National Youth Scouting for the 13s to 18s.

McLaren has worked for City since September 2017 as their Head Regional Scout. Newcastle are revamping their Academy under new Technical Director Dan Ashworth and McLaren is regarded as a key part of the jigsaw.

Meanwhile, Stewart Thompson, who has worked for City since 2010 and is their Head of UK Academy Recruitment, is moving to Chelsea.

Two scouts have arrived at City from Wolves to fill the gaps. Bradley Wall has been appointed Northern UK Scouting Manager for 13s to 18s. He had worked for Wolves for three-and-a-half years, latterly as Senior UK Co-Ordinator and Lead Technical Scout.

He replaces Paul Midgley, who left City in November after seven months to become Head of Youth Recruitment at Newcastle United.

Sean Murphy has been appointed Southern UK Scouting Manager for the 13s to 18s at City. He was a Senior Academy Scout at Wolves for nine months and was a National Scout for Sheffield United for six years before that.

Sam Fagbemi was promoted to Head of Academy Recruitment at City in August in August 2022 after Joe Shields moved to Southampton as Head of Recruitment. Shields is now Co-Director of Recruitment and Talent at Chelsea.
