EVERTON have appointed former Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid practitioner Jack Nayler as their new Head of Sport Science.

Director of Football Kevin Thelwell, who has led an overhaul behind the scenes at Goodison since arriving in February, said: “Jack is one of the best in his profession and we are delighted for him to become a key part of our first-team set-up.

“He is hugely respected in the field of sports science, highlighted by the fact he has worked for some of the best clubs in Europe, and his expertise will further strengthen our talented backroom team at Everton.”

After doing an internship under the late Nick Broad (who you can read more about HERE) at Chelsea in 2008, Nayler got a full-time job as a sport scientist at the club.

He then followed Carlo Ancelotti to PSG and Real Madrid, before being appointed Head of Sport Science at Celtic in 2016.

The Englishman stayed at Celtic Park for five years and was then head of Sport Science at RB Leipzig from June 2021. Thelwell himself worked in the Red Bull network, at New York.

Everton have not had a Head of Sport Science since Jamie Harley was sacked along with Rafa Benitez in January this year.

They look well stocked in the performance department now though, with Chris Jones as first-team coach and Head of Performance, David Flower as Lead Sport Scientist and Jason O’Keefe as sport scientist.
