MANCHESTER CITY have appointed Barnsley’s Paul Harsley as their new Under-23 manager.

He replaces Simon Davies, who has been named Head of Coaching for the U13s to U23s.

Academy Director Jason Wilcox said: “We are delighted to welcome Paul to the role of EDS (Elite Development Squad) manager.

“He is a forward-thinking coach who has had an extensive playing career and comes to us with an excellent reputation of working with young players.

“He is a great addition to our coaching staff and he is inheriting a talented group of players.”

Harsley was also U23 boss at Barnsley and had a brief spell as their caretaker manager earlier this year. He holds the Uefa Pro Licence and enjoyed a 17-year playing career, making 500 appearances with clubs including Port Vale, Macclesfield Town and Scunthorpe United.

Harsley has previously worked in the Academies at Scunthorpe and Birmingham City as well.

Gary Neville has previously explained why he sees U23 boss as one of football's toughest jobs.
