Chris Black has joined Liverpool as Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach as the club continue to revamp their Medical and Performance department under Dr Jonathan Power.

As TGG reported last month, Power, who joined in April 2023 as Team Doctor, is now taking a strategic oversight of a unified department and there have been a series of changes following the departure of Manager Jurgen Klopp at the end of last season.

With this in mind, Black has been appointed Lead S&C. He has worked for the Football Association for the last three-and-a-half years, as Physical Performance Coach with the England Under-17s. Prior to this, the lifelong Liverpool fan held various positions in rugby league, as Head of Physical Performance at Leeds Rhinos and England Rugby League.

He said: “It's the greatest honour of my career and I hope to help the club achieve continued success during my time here."

In addition, Clare Farrell joined the department in the summer as Lead Performance Nutritionist, having previously worked for Munster Rugby for the last three years.

Liverpool said her role would involved overseeing, “nutrition strategies to support the players' health, performance and recovery around training and matches” and working with players, “on a one-on-one basis to individualise their training and game-day fuelling, recovery and supplement routines according to their specific positional demands and/ or goals.”

Mona Nemmer, who joined with Klopp in the summer of 2016, remains on the staff as Head of Nutrition.
