MARK LEYLAND has been promoted to Head of Post-Match and Elite Player Analysis by Liverpool following the departure of Harrison Kingston to the Moroccan Football Federation earlier this month.
As TGG reported, Kingston left the Reds after eight years to become Director of Performance Analysis and Framework for Morocco.
Leyland, who has been with the Anfield club for seven-and-a-half years as a post-match analyst, steps up to replace his former colleague. Like Kingston, Leyland joined Liverpool from Burnley.
Meanwhile, Daniel Spearritt has stepped up from the Academy, where he was Under-23s performance analyst, to become post-match and elite player development analyst for the first team. Spearitt has been with the club for more than six years.
Kingston had previously described the role of a post-match analyst as being to provide “help, support and evidence – both from a team perspective and individuals – for the coaching staff to ultimately make a decision.”
Leyland and Spearritt also act as a conduit between Liverpool's data science department, led by Dr Ian Graham, and manager Jurgen Klopp and his coaches.
