NEWCASTLE UNITED Head of Sport Science Jamie Harley is leaving the club after 11 years for a “new challenge”.

Harley joined The Magpies in July 2010 as a sport scientist and was promoted to Head of Sport Science in June 2017.

He has worked under six different managers (Chris Hughton, Alan Pardew, John Carver, Steve McClaren, Rafa Benitez and Steve Bruce) and had 10 seasons in the Premier League, as well as one in the Championship (2016/17) when the team won the title.

Shortly before Newcastle’s final game of the 2020/21 season, in which they beat Fulham 2-0 away, Harley tweeted that he was leaving the club.

“Last day for me today at NUFC,” he wrote. “11 seasons complete - one Championship-winning season and 10 in the Premier League. An incredible challenge and experiences I’ll never forget.

“Good luck to everyone at the club. Time for a new challenge!”

Harley, who is also Associate Professor of Practice at Durham University, later told TGG: “The club have been excellent in supporting me over the years and I’ve had really good chats with the manager and will be leaving on good terms.”
