NEW Stoke City manager Nathan Jones has brought Joaquin Gomez and Jared Roberts-Smith with him from Luton to bolster his backroom team at the bet365 Stadium.
Jones was appointed last week following the sacking of Gary Rowett and six members of his staff.
Spaniard Gomez, a Uefa Pro Licence holder, joins as first team coach, having held the same role at Luton. Prior to that he was Head of Tactical Analysis at Derby County and first team coach at Brighton.
Roberts-Smith is the new Head of Sports Science, effectively replacing sacked Head of Performance Dave Carolan. He worked with Jones at Luton from June 2016 and prior to that was at Charlton.
The other members of Jones' backroom staff are first team coach Rory Delap and goalkeeping coach Andy Quy - who stayed on when Rowett was fired - and Kevin Russell, who has moved back up from the Under-18s.
Carolan, physical performance coach Andy Johnson, Head of Tactical Analysis Joe Carnall and first-team coaches Kevin Phillips, Mark Sale and Callum Davidson all left along with Rowett.
This broke more than 20 years’ continuous service in professional football for the experienced Carolan, who has also worked at Derby, Birmingham, Colchester and Norwich.
