JON DE SOUZA has been appointed as Charlton’s first Development Coach, responsible for helping first-team players to “add to their game” and Academy players to prepare for senior football.
De Souza recently left League Two Colchester United after six years. He had been their Technical and Performance Director since 2019 and Academy Manager for the previous three years.
He began his career in pro football in 2005 at Luton Town’s Academy, becoming their U18s and Reserve Team Manager. In 2011 he joined Brentford as U21s Head Coach and also supported the first-team staff. Five years later he became Colchester’s Academy Manager and their Technical and Performance Director in 2019.
De Souza said: “Charlton has an excellent tradition of producing players and then those players doing well for the first team, it is a tradition I want to help add to.
“The ownership’s plans for the club to get promoted to the Championship and further, show that the club is focussed on improving on the quality of our players. I’m excited to get onto the grass and do what I am most passionate about, which is working with the players and helping them progress.”
Owner Thomas Sandgaard added: “I am really pleased we’ve been able to add Jon to our coaching staff. He has excellent experience and is well-respected in the game.
“He’ll play a very important role in developing and improving our players, which will be vital in our growth as a club.”
TGG is holding an Individual Development Webinar on May 19th, with speakers including Malmo Sporting Director Andreas Georgson, Manchester United Head of Player Development and Coaching Justin Cochrane and Nottingham Forest Lead First-Team Performance Analyst Tom Corden.
