CRYSTAL PALACE manager Frank de Boer has welcomed the appointment of Dougie Freedman as the club's Sporting Director.
De Boer worked under a Sporting Director during his six years as Ajax manager. From 2012 to 2016, this role was filled by the former Arsenal star Marc Overmars.
Freedman, 43, has not managed since being sacked by Nottingham Forest in March 2016 following 13 months in charge of the club.
De Boer, 47, said: "I felt this was a position the club needed. I always worked with a Sporting Director during my time as manager at Ajax. I am looking forward to working with Dougie in this transfer window and beyond."
Eagles chairman Steve Parish added: ”This is a position I have been looking to fill for a while. I’m delighted that Dougie has agreed to accept the position and look forward to continuing Crystal Palace's progression to become a solid Premier League club with the right infrastructure."
Freedman made 330 league appearances during two spells as a Palace player and became their manager in January 2011. In October 2012 he left to take charge of Bolton.
After the first two games of the season, Palace lie 19th in the Premier League, having lost to Huddersfield and Liverpool.
