CRYSTAL PALACE first-team coach Dave Reddington has left the club after eight seasons to become assistant manager at AGF in Denmark.
The 39-year-old Uefa Pro Licence holder has a long association with Palace. Other than three years as a youth coach at Watford, he has been with the Eagles since 2004.
He coached the Under-13s to U16s from 2004 to 2009 and returned to the Academy in 2013 after that stint with Watford. From 2016, Reddington was assistant to Palace U23 lead Richard Shaw, and in September 2018 he was promoted to first-team coach.
At the time, manager Roy Hodgson said: “Dave is a young and ambitious coach, close in age to the players and fresh from receiving his coaching badges and Pro Licence and maintains a nice balance to our coaching group.”
At AGF, Reddington will assist manager David Nielsen. The club finished fourth in the Danish Superliga last season and former Liverpool and Norway full-back Stig Inge Bjørnebye is their Sporting Director.
Reddington said: “I am very happy for this opportunity and was in no doubt that I wanted it, after I had some good meetings with Stig Inge Bjørnebye and David Nielsen about the vision and ambition the club has.
“In England, I have worked in different environments and now is the right time for me to try myself in another league with new challenges.”
Bjørnebye added: “He is a highly competent coach who has worked under Roy Hodgson at Crystal Palace. He has been part of an exciting project and worked at a high level with talented players in the best league in the world.
“He has delivered good results based on principles that we look forward to being inspired by.”
AGF start preparations for the 2021/22 season next week, before the first round of the Superliga begins on July 18th.
Reddington’s exit means only goalkeeper coach Dean Kiely remains on the coaching staff from Hodgson’s time at the club. Assistant Ray Lewington left with the manager, who is yet to be replaced, at the end of last season.
