TOLLY COBURN has been promoted to Data Analytics Lead by Arsenal as they continue to reshape the department.

A number of data and analysis staff have departed the North London club in little more than six months. The most prominent was Sarah Rudd, the Vice President of Software and Analytics, who headed the department. She left last August after nine years to found sports technology company Blue Crow Analytics.

Her replacement is fellow American Chris Dove, who took on the title of Head of Software and Analytics last summer. Dove had previously worked for Arsenal’s data analytics arm StatDNA for the previous six years as a software engineer.

Reporting into him will be Coburn, who started with the Gunners in 2016 as an analyst assistant. For the last two-and-a-half years he has worked in analytics strategy and application, producing visualisations and insights from data.

Dutchman Kevin Balvers joined in July as the club's first Football Methodology Analyst. He helps with first-team analysis as well as "identifying best practice and trends", (these may be tactical, technical, performance and recruitment) at Arsenal and other clubs.

In July last year Data Scientist Arjav Trivedi left Arsenal to take up a role with Fifa and is now Lead Data Scientist and Engineer at Aston Villa. Last month his fellow Data Scientist Tyler Cox, who had been with the Gunners for eight years, was appointed Director of Analytics at MLS side Seattle Sounders.
