Burnley recruiting for new Academy Manager and Head of Coaching
Written by Simon Austin — August 30, 2024
Burnley are advertising for a new Academy Manager and Head of Academy Coaching after the two roles opened up.
David Longwell, who joined the club as Academy Manager from Shrewsbury Town in August 2023, resigned from his position last week. Director of Football Development Paul Jenkins informed Academy staff of the news last Friday (August 23rd) and then wrote to parents of players early the following week.
While the club look for a permanent replacement, Head of Coaching Ash Higgins has been put in temporary charge of the football side of the Academy. This is before he himself leaves in November, to become a Youth Coach Developer with the Football Association.
Higgins has worked for a total of five years with the Clarets, with two years as Under-11s Lead at Liverpool sandwiched in between. He started as Foundation Phase Lead at Burnley, before returning as Assistant Head of Coaching and then being promoted to Head of Coaching in September last year.
In his new FA role, Higgins will be working with clubs in the North West on coach development and delivering on the A Licence and Advanced Youth Award, as well as helping to oversee futsal courses.
