Brighton's Sargeson joins Everton as Manager of Scouting Operations

LEE SARGESON has left Brighton after almost six years to become Manager of Scouting Operations at Everton.

He will replace Dan Purdy, who was promoted to Head of Recruitment before Christmas. Purdy has been with the Toffees for nine years and had been Scouting Operations Manager since July 2019.

Sargeson was Senior Scouting Manager at Brighton. Under their position-specific model he managed a team of scouts looking specifically at wide and attacking midfielders.

Prior to Brighton he was First-Team Scouting Manager at Aston Villa from 2014 to 2017 and an analyst and Head of Under-21s Recruitment at Bolton from 2007 to 2014.

There have been a number of senior departures from Brighton's recruitment operation in the last year, with Technical Director Dan Ashworth, who was in overall charge, moving to Newcastle, and Head of Recruitment Paul Winstanley joining Chelsea, as well as Head Coach Graham Potter and his assistants joining the Blues.

However, the Seagulls have clarity of purpose all the way from the top with owner Tony Bloom and a strong structure, so the exits might not cause the concern they would at other clubs.
