MICHAEL BEALE has returned to Liverpool as head of coaching for the foundation phase at the Kirkby Academy.

The former Under-23 coach left the club last December to become assistant manager at Brazilian side Sao Paulo, before stepping down in July.

The foundation phase covers players aged from six to 11 and Beale told the Liverpool Echo: "Skill development is an area that I am hugely passionate about and working with the youngest players gives you so much joy on a daily basis. The academy is a family and it feels great to be going 'home' to work alongside both excellent people and coaches.”
