Liverpool sack physio Pons as part of medical revamp

LIVERPOOL have sacked physio Ruben Pons as they revamp their medical department ahead of the upcoming season.
Spaniard Pons, who has worked closely with star player Mo Salah and gave an interview about his fitness on the eve of the World Cup, had been at the club since 2014, having previously worked as a consultant for the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Villarreal.
The exact reasons for his departure are not known by TGG at this stage. There have also been other significant changes to the medical department, led by Performance Manager Philipp Jacobsen, who arrived at the club last month.
Matt Konopinski, who had been acting up as Head Physio following the sacking of Andy Renshaw last November, will revert to his former position of first-team physio, while Scott McAuley will move from first team to Academy.
This means Liverpool will need to embark on some significant recruitment before the start of the season - a process which is already well underway.
The changes have been led by German Jacobsen, although Sporting Director Michael Edwards has had the final say. Liverpool’s remaining first-team physios are Konopinski, Christopher Rohrbeck, Richie Partridge and Joe Lewis.
