WEST BROM caretaker manager Jimmy Shan has completed his backroom team by bringing in Michael Appleton and Steven Reid as coaches.

Both men will be in place until the end of the season - like Shan himself - with their futures perhaps depending on how the Baggies perform in the upcoming Championship play-offs.

Appleton, 43, is a former Portsmouth, Blackpool, Blackburn Rovers and Oxford United manager and previously worked with Shan in the club’s Academy, as well as having a brief spell as Albion’s caretaker boss.

Reid, 38, left Crystal Palace in September 2018 after a year as first-team coach, citing personal reasons. The former Republic of Ireland midfielder helped Shan with Albion's Under-18s a few years ago.

"With the timescale we have left this season, it was important to have someone I know and have a relationship with," Shan said. "We both worked in the Academy here together for a time and Appy played alongside Steven Reid."

Reid added: “I took the decision last summer to leave Palace for personal reasons and take a break from the frontline," Reid said. "I spent some quality time with my family but also continued learning and finished my Pro Licence.

“It proved a good opportunity to get to some games and continue my own coaching education. I went to spend some time with Steve Clarke up in Scotland and then my good friend Sean Dyche at Burnley."
