Reid leaves Crystal Palace for personal reasons

STEVEN REID has stepped down as first-team coach at Crystal Palace after just a year because of “personal reasons”.
The 37-year-old has been absent from the touchline for Palace this season and confirmed his departure in a short statement on social media.
“An unbelievable experience at Crystal Palace FC over the last 12 months,” he wrote. “A special club with special fans. Unfortunately for personal reasons it’s time to take a break for a little while and then see what challenges lie ahead.
“Been a privilege to work alongside Roy (Hodgson), Ray (Lewington), the staff and a fantastic group of players.”
Reid, who holds the Uefa Pro Licence and was first-team coach at Reading for two years before joining Palace, was appointed by Roy Hodgson when he took over at Selhurst Park last September.
They had not won a point or even scored a point when Hodgson and Reid arrived, but ended up finishing 11th in the Premier League.
Palace chairman Steve Parish paid tribute to the impact Reid had made at the club.
“Brilliant to have you with us last season Steven. Made a fantastic contribution, good luck for the future from everyone at CPFC,” he tweeted.
Hodgson had earlier said: “Unfortunately, he has decided to leave the club to take a break away from football. He has personal issues that he wants to sort out.
"It’s a sad situation for us because we really enjoyed working with him. He did a fantastic job last season and we will miss him, but we have to respect his wishes and only hope the personal issues he has he will be able to resolve."
A replacement is yet to be announced.
