THE ROLE

This role will inform and support both team and individual player development coaching and analysis process.

Aligned with players' individual development plans (IDPs) and/ or team game model, this role is responsible for creating and delivering bespoke, automated data and video insights and accurate benchmarking to assess if players/ teams are making meaningful progress towards their development and/ or performance objectives.

The Technical Development Insights Manager will inform and support the individual player development coaching and analysis process through creating and delivering bespoke, automated data and video insights. Aligned with players individual development plans (IDPs), accurate benchmarking will be created to assess if players are making meaningful progress towards their development goals and understand readiness to progress to new environments.

As a key stakeholder in the player development process, the Technical Development Insights Manager will work closely with Engineers, Data Scientists & Analysts from CFG’s Football Intelligence team in order to play a leading role in developing and integrating data-informed coaching and analysis processes within both the City Football Group Remote Player Support (RPS) department and wider group clubs.

YOUR IMPACT

  • Integrate data and video into IDP performance analysis and coaching processes for RPS group and wider City Football Group clubs
  • Collaborate with the Football Intelligence team to identify and develop appropriate performance benchmarking systems tailored to individual player development considering position, performance and environment
  • Develop and visualise player positional profiles using/creating relevant metrics and advanced performance benchmarking
  • Collaborate with the Football Intelligence team to create bespoke metrics and develop XMLs for video integration to track individual player development objectives, position/team specific characteristics and evidence data insights through video
  • Productionize and communicate data and video insights to inform player development decision making and support the player development coaching process.
  • Produce player review dossiers to support monthly and bi-annual multi-disciplinary team reviews
  • Collaborate and support individual coaching and analysis process development across the wider City Football Group
  • Continually advance, challenge and set data, insights and performance analysis standards across player and team development processes

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Essential

  • Substantial experience working in a professional football environment as a data analyst, data scientist or performance analyst
  • High level of context specific technical and tactical football understanding, specifically analysing and benchmarking player performance
  • Experience using SQL, R or Python. With previous experience working with large datasets (e.g. StatsBomb & Opta)
  • Experience utilising Visual Analytics tools (preferably Tableau) to explore, identify & communicate insights

Desirable

  • Confident and competent using a broad range of video analysis software packages such HUDL Sportscode and SBG Matchtracker
  • UEFA Coaching badges – or working towards
  • Proficiency in multiple languages
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Pro-active and engaging style
  • Willing to self-evaluate and work towards continuous development
  • Experience implementing best practice data analysis strategies that are context specific and relevant
