THE ROLE

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Psychologist to develop, coordinate and deliver an inspiring, purpose-led psychology practice within player loans and recruitment, ensuring an aligned system that meets the performance and wellbeing needs of the Club.

This role will work in collaboration with NUFC Loans team to develop and implement streamlined handover processes and communication channels with loan clubs (e.g., key domestic and global personnel) to enhance the loan experience and ultimately drive positive outcomes for players and clubs. This will be done by monitoring the integration of players at the respective loans club and staying well connected with players during their loan journeys.

The role will also have responsibility for psychologically informing and supporting the player recruitment process of prospective players by enabling the recruitment department to integrate psychological and behavioural assessments for our players.

YOUR IMPACT

You will hold an undergraduate and postgraduate degree in psychology, sports psychology, or a related field of study and hold HCPC registration with experience in delivering psychology programmes in elite/professional domains for players/athletes and staff.

With a good understanding of psychology, wellbeing and player development you will also have experience in the translation of evidence-based research into context specific resources for elite/professional programmes for players/athletes and staff.

You will have a passion for, and proven tracker record of, the development of psychological assessment in elite/professional programme players/athletes.

You will also hold a British Psychological or British Association of Sport and Exercise Science practitioner accreditation.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the strategic and operational implementation of psychology across NUFC loans and recruitment.
  • Design, deliver, and coordinate psychology practice within player loans and recruitment, ensuring an aligned system that meets the performance and wellbeing needs of NUFC.
  • Develop loan player formulations from a multi/inter-disciplinary team perspective.
  • Provide handover and transition support for NUFC loan and emerging talent players.
  • In collaboration with NUFC loans team, develop and implement streamlined handover processes and communication channels with loan clubs (e.g., key domestic and global personnel) to enhance the loan experience and ultimately drive positive outcomes for players and clubs.
  • Monitor the integration of players at the respective loans club, staying well- connected with players during their loan journeys.
  • Facilitate processes to develop feedback channels and opportunities to review loan player performance and wellbeing.
  • Ensure individual development plans of loan players incorporate a shared understanding and language around psychological characteristics.
  • Provide psychological resource to support (direct and indirect) player development, performance, and wellbeing.
  • Support integrated working between player loans, recruitment, and the wider club.
  • Psychologically inform and support the player recruitment process of prospectiveNUFC players.
  • Support the recruitment department to integrate psychological and behavioural assessments for prospective NUFC players.
  • Monitor and develop a collaborative, psychological and wellbeing support plan for new NUFC players.
  • With the NUFC recruitment department, monitor and review psychological assessment processes to inform future practice.
  • Ensure evidence-based practice through collaboration with external research and domain-specific experts.
  • Disseminate key information through coaches and staff and support the implementation of best practice that is aligned to learning and the respective context.
  • As a member of the wider psychology team, co-develop and deliver key psychology and wellbeing projects.
  • Any other reasonable duties.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Perform duties with due regard to club policies and procedures and legislative requirements at all times;
  • Ensure implementation of the clubs health & safety, safeguarding, welfare and equality policies to create a safe working environment for all;
  • Ensure working practices are compliant with relevant legislation and data protection legislation and/or general data protection regulations (GDPR) requirements;
  • Undertake continuous professional development (CPD) training and/or additional training as identified or as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential:

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate degree in psychology, sports psychology or a related field of study.
  • British Psychological or British Association of Sport and Exercise Science practitioner accreditation.
  • HCPC registered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • Relevant experience in the development of psychological assessment in elite/professional programme players/ athletes.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering psychology support in elite/ professional programme players/ athletes and staff.
  • Advanced understanding of psychology, wellbeing and player development.
  • Excellent understanding of high-performance environments.
  • Ability to build rapport with people across professional programme environments on a global scale.
  • An understanding of working within cross-cultural environments.
  • Experience in the translation of evidence-based research into context specific resources for elite/ professional programme players/ athletes and staff.
  • Highly credible academic with applied knowledge and experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills communication skills, with ability to communicate with senior staff.
  • Good IT skills.

Desirable:

  • Masters or doctorate in a related field of work or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of working with young players/athletes
  • Experience of supporting players/athletes with key career transitions
  • Knowledge of professional football & the demands of the modern game.
  • Related coaching qualification.
  • Technical video analysis and data presentation skills.
  • A second language would be of benefit, from basic through to fluent.
