FORMER England defender Jonathan Woodgate has been appointed as Middlesbrough’s new Under-18s assistant coach.
The 37-year-old returned to his hometown club, which he had captained as a player, to assist caretaker manager Steve Agnew in March.
Woodgate will be assistant to Under-18 coach Mark Tinkler, who was promoted to the role towards the end of last season.
Craig Liddle, who has taken over as Academy Manager from Dave Parnaby, said: “He (Woodgate) played at the very top and is someone who the young players can look up to and learn from him. He is a great personality to have around, his enthusiasm is infectious, he has worked with the young players before here, and he is very much looking forward to the role.”
The Under-18s will be doing team-building exercises in the Lake District from Friday and their pre-season programme includes games against Partick Thistle and Motherwell.
