Jon Hunter-Barrett: Wolves Academy Manager for Football

Wolves have created an innovative new PDP Technical Lead role after splitting their Head of Academy Coaching role in two.

The move follows the exit of former Head of Coaching Mike Scott to Birmingham City in June. Now Darren Ryan has taken on the position of Head of Coaching and Player Development for the Under-9s to 16s (Foundation and Youth Development Phases), having previously been Head of Academy Player Development.

The new PDP Technical Lead will focus on the Professional Development Phase (17s to 21s) and have a strategic, coach development and player development remit.

The role is being advertised on TGG and the responsibilities include “overseeing the planning and delivery of the Players Individual Learning Plans, Coaching Development Action Planning and having a major influence over the analysis & delivery of the Academy Coaching Philosophy and Player Pathway Plan.”

Academy Manager for Football Jon Hunter-Barrett told TGG: “When the Head of Coaching role became vacant, we said, ‘Let’s have a different way of thinking about it.’ We split the position in two, with Darren focusing on the 9s to 16s.

“The new Technical Lead will focus on coach and player development, as well as being very strategic, having a major influence on the analysis and delivery of the Academy Coaching Philosophy and Pathway Plan.”
