TOMMY WIDDRINGTON has been appointed Head of Recruitment at Bristol Rovers, little more than a year after joining Coventry City to become the “cornerstone” of their recruitment process.
The 46-year-old once again teams up with Rovers manager Darrell Clarke, with whom he played at Hartlepool United.
He said: “I’m here to help Darrell push on and to help him achieve Bristol Rovers where he wants them to be. I’ve been in the game 30 years and I’ve been in recruitment nine years.
"I like to think my career as a recruiter has been relatively successful. I’m a big believer we can move this club forward. Bristol Rovers is a very big club and I don’t think it I’ll be a problem bringing people in, the manager is a big factor.
Coventry hired Widdrington from Eastbourne in April 2017 to replace technical director Mark Venus and restructure their recruitment policy. Chairman Tim Fisher said he would be “the cornerstone of the recruitment process”.
Last summer Widdrington signed 11 new players for City, with a further three arriving on loan in the January transfer window. The Sky Blues said they would be announcing a replacement shortly.
A spokesman said: "We would like to thank Tommy for this hard work during his time at the club, and wish him all the best for the future."
