West Brom 'shocked and saddened' by sudden death of club doctor

WEST BROM’S players will wear black armbands during their match against Sunderland tonight in tribute to club doctor Julian Widdowson, who died from a heart attack at his home in Bath on Saturday.
Widdowson, 63, had worked for the Baggies since July 2018, doing three days a week for both the first team and Academy. He also worked for the Royal Ballet School and the Schoen Clinic in London and was highly experienced as a sports physician, having served in rugby union for Bath, Gloucester, England Saxons and the Wales national team.
In a statement, West Brom said they were “shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden passing” of their club doctor.
They added: "The thoughts of all at The Hawthorns are with everyone affected by his passing, and the club sends its heartfelt condolences to Jules’ wife, Celia, and the Widdowson family at this desperately sad time."
Bath Rugby, where he spent 12 years, said: "He made a huge impact on so many people’s lives and will be sorely missed. Bath Rugby’s deepest condolences go out to Jules’ friends and family."
There will be a minute’s applause during West Brom’s home fixture against Rotherham United on Saturday.
