Trio made redundant from Barnsley Academy

THREE staff have been made redundant from Barnsley’s Academy as the club cuts costs in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Lead Youth Development Phase Coach Sam Collins, Head of Academy Sports Science and Medical Sam Bowring, and Head of Academy Analysis Jamie Powell are the unfortunate trio.

Bowring, who joined the Tykes from Hull City in December 2018, posted on LinkedIn: "I'm sad to announce that I have been released from Barnsley FC due to financial restructuring within the football club.

"I know that this will be a tough time for everyone based within my field. If anybody knows of any opportunities that may suit somebody like myself then please let me know. I'm willing to travel/ relocate if required."

Powell, who joined in July 2017 from Huddersfield Town, posted: “It is with deep regret that, due to the global pandemic, I have been made redundant from my current position.

“Should anyone desire a very highly experienced and professional performance analyst please get in touch, or share my details with the appropriate people or organisation.”

Collins, who joined the Category Two Academy in February 2019, was manager of National League side York City for a brief period.

During a 20-year playing career he made more than 500 senior appearances, turning out for the likes of Huddersfield, Bury, Hartlepool and Port Vale.

Five of the starting XI for Barnsley’s last two games have been Academy products.
