SPEAKERS
Nick Cox is the Head of Academy at Manchester United, who have come top in the previous two editions of the Academy Productivity Rankings. He joined the club in May 2016 and has previously been Academy Manager at Sheffield United and Watford. Nick appeared on Episode #15 of the TGG Podcast, when he explained the 'higher purpose' of Man Utd's Academy.
Michael Hamilton has worked for AFC Wimbledon for more than 13 years and been their Academy Manager since August 2019. Academy players have made 378 appearances for the club during the last decade and there is an ambitious target for half of the first team to be composed of homegrown players going forwards.
Gregg Broughton is the Academy Director at Bodø/Glimt, the Norwegian side who are making a big noise in European football. Last year they won their league title and this season they've beaten giants Roma 6-1 in the Europa Conference League. Youth is a key part of their strategy, with more than a quarter of their minutes going to homegrown players this term. Gregg is a former Academy Manager of Norwich City and Luton Town in England.
Per Mertesacker was a World Cup-winning defender for Germany and played seven seasons with Arsenal. He is now the club's Academy Manager, a role he has held since 2018. The Gunners are one of the top 10 clubs in Europe for homegrown players this season, according to the CIES.
Ged Roddy MBE is the architect of the modern Academy system. In 2009 he became the first Director of Youth at the Premier League and three years later launched the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP), which transformed youth development in this country. Ged is now Technical Director at League One side Charlton Athletic.
