Technical Director Ramsey leaves QPR after nine years

CHRIS RAMSEY MBE has left his role as Technical Director and Head of Coaching at QPR after more than nine years with the club.

Chairman and CEO Lee Hoos said the decision had come as the club “thoroughly rationalise everything we do” and had followed “very amicable discussions with Chris” and was "in the best interests of all parties.”

The Championship side have just carried out a "thorough review" of their Academy structure.

Ramsey joined QPR in November 2014 as Head of Player Development and was placed in charge of the first team between February and November 2015. He was named Technical Director in 2016 before taking on the additional role of Head of Coaching in 2018.

Ramsey, who was our guest on Episode #33 of the TGG Podcast, which you can listen to below, told TGG: “I have had a really good nine years at the club and have nothing but good things to say about my time at QPR.

“I managed the team in the Premier League (in the second half of 2014/15) and have been involved in helping to develop 25 Academy players who have gone on to feature in the first team.

“This is my 45th season in football and I have experienced most roles in the game. I am excited about the next part of my career.”

Hoos added: “Chris has been a great servant to the club and was an integral part of putting together the foundations of our Academy. On both a personal and professional level, Chris is an outstanding person.

"However, as we thoroughly rationalise everything we do, and following very amicable discussions with Chris, it is felt this move is in the best interests of all parties. I cannot thank Chris enough for his incredible hard work, dedication and guidance since my own arrival here.

“Whilst we are parting ways, he is, and will always remain, a friend of the club and we wish him every success for the future.”

Following a playing career that spanned two decades, Ramsey qualified as a coach and went on to work with every England age group from Under-16s to U20s. After that he worked for Tottenham for a decade, becoming their Head of Player Development and first-team coach. Then he joined QPR in 2014.

Manisha Tailor MBE, the Assistant Head of Coaching at QPR, has told TGG: “If it wasn’t for his firm but fair, no-nonsense approach, guidance and mentoring, I wouldn’t be where I am now.”

Justin Cochrane, the Brentford first-team coach, said: “Since I met Chris in 2009 (at Tottenham), he’s been a massive influence on my coaching career - without doubt the most influential person. He’s a mentor, a friend and has consistently helped guide and direct me.

“He’s a coach educator, a coach developer and a people developer.”

QPR are undergoing significant change behind the scenes. Les Ferdinand stepped down as Director of Football in June after more than eight years, while the club opened their new training ground in Heston after a protracted 11-year saga.
