Scott leaves Wolves to become Birmingham City Head of Coaching

Mike Scott has left his role as Head of Academy Coaching at Wolves after almost three years to take up the same position at Midlands rivals Birmingham City.

Scott, who recently graduated with the UEFA Pro Licence from the English FA, is highly experienced, having worked for Walsall, West Brom, Derby County and Aston Villa during a youth development career spanning 25 years.

His longest spell was at West Brom, where he worked for 11 years and became their Head of the Professional Development Phase. He is making a return to Birmingham’s Academy, having worked there from 1999 to 2004 as a coach with the 9s to 16s.

Despite being relegated to League One last season, Birmingham retain high ambitions for their Academy. As well as announcing plans for a new state-of-the-art training ground, they have said they want to return to Category One Academy status in 2025/26, having become the first club to be downgraded under previous ownership in May 2022.

In April, Birmingham appointed former Burnley, Manchester City and QPR executive Mike Rigg to the new role of Academy Technical Director, with the objective of making the Academy "world-class."

CEO Garry Cook said: “Nothing is more important to the future success of this football club than the Academy.”

Rigg added: “The immediate plans will be to achieve Category One status but this is just the start. Our ambitions are to be recognised as a world class youth development programme.”

Former club captain Liam Daish is Birmingham’s Academy Manager (Football), while Louisa Collis is Academy Manager (Operations).
