The 37-year-old former England captain was named Blues boss on Wednesday morning. His assistants will be:

  • John O'Shea: The former Manchester United and Republic of Ireland defender transitioned into coaching with Reading in July 2019 and was also assistant for Ireland's Under-21s. Then became first-team coach at Stoke City and for the Ireland's men's senior side.
  • Carl Robinson: Former Wales international played in Major League Soccer for Toronto and New York Red Bulls before becoming assistant and then Head Coach at Vancouver Whitecaps. Switched to the A-League with Newcastle Jets and Western Sydney Wanderers. In March this year joined Rooney as assistant at DC United.
  • Pete Shuttleworth: Former Nottingham Forest and Coventry City Academy player was manager of Shirebrook Town, Sheffield FC and Worksop Town in non-league. Joined Birmingham City as a scout in 2015 and then became Head of Tactical Analysis. First worked with Rooney at Derby, as assistant and analyst, before joining him at DC United.
