Rooney names quartet of assistants at Birmingham City

WAYNE ROONEY has named Ashley Cole, John O'Shea, Carl Robinson and Pete Shuttleworth as his assistants after being named as Birmingham City's new manager.
The 37-year-old former England captain was named Blues boss on Wednesday morning. His assistants will be:
- Ashley Cole: One of England’s finest defenders. Became a coach under Frank Lampard at Derby County and went with him to Everton and Chelsea. Also assistant for England Under-21s when they become European champions for the first time in 39 years earlier this year.
- John O'Shea: The former Manchester United and Republic of Ireland defender transitioned into coaching with Reading in July 2019 and was also assistant for Ireland's Under-21s. Then became first-team coach at Stoke City and for the Ireland's men's senior side.
- Carl Robinson: Former Wales international played in Major League Soccer for Toronto and New York Red Bulls before becoming assistant and then Head Coach at Vancouver Whitecaps. Switched to the A-League with Newcastle Jets and Western Sydney Wanderers. In March this year joined Rooney as assistant at DC United.
- Pete Shuttleworth: Former Nottingham Forest and Coventry City Academy player was manager of Shirebrook Town, Sheffield FC and Worksop Town in non-league. Joined Birmingham City as a scout in 2015 and then became Head of Tactical Analysis. First worked with Rooney at Derby, as assistant and analyst, before joining him at DC United.
