Onuora appointed to pioneering Premier League diversity role

FORMER Swindon Town manager Iffy Onuora has been appointed as the Premier League’s first Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and will start the role in April.
The 53-year-old, who made more than 450 appearances as a player, has been equalities officer and regional coach with the PFA since 2012.
The Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion role was advertised last October with the remit of: encouraging and supporting best practice at clubs; liaising with external partners and leading on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) campaigns and programmes; liaising with stakeholders including the EFL, FA, PFA and LMA; and “working with colleagues at the Premier League on EDI matters”.
Onuora played for clubs including Huddersfield, Gillingham, Swindon, Sheffield United and Grimsby before moving into coaching and management.
The Uefa Pro Licence holder has managed Swindon and the Ethiopia national team.
