PERFORMANCE DIRECTOR Ryland Morgans has been sacked by Everton - four weeks after being told he would remain at the club despite the dismissal of Sam Allardyce.

Morgans was appointed last December after Sam Allardyce - with whom he had worked at Crystal Palace - took over as manager.

When Allardyce was sacked last month - along with assistants Sammy Lee, Craig Shakespeare and Martyn Margetson and Director of Football Steve Walsh - Morgans was told he would be retained by chief executive Professor Denise Barrett-Baxendale.

However, Barrett-Baxendale informed the former Crystal Palace and Liverpool man that he was being released yesterday. The decision means that only first-team coach Duncan Ferguson remains from Allardyce’s time at the club.

New manager Marco Silva will lean heavily on his long-time assistant Goncalo Pedro - with whom he has worked at every club he has been at since Estoril in 2011 - for the physical preparation of his players.

Morgans, who was Head of Fitness and Science at Liverpool from July 2012 to June 2016, is one of the few practitioners in world football to hold both the Uefa Pro Licence and a PhD.

He was also Head of Performance for the Welsh national team from March 2011 to February 2018.
