DARREN MOORE has named his coaching staff at Huddersfield Town after being named as the club’s new manager.
The 49-year-old succeeded Neil Warnock last week and will take charge of the Terriers for the first time when they travel to Coventry in the Championship tomorrow evening.
Moore led Sheffield Wednesday to promotion back to the Championship via the play-offs last season, before leaving the club in the summer. He's brought his four Wednesday assistants with him to Huddersfield:
- Jamie Smith (Assistant): Played for clubs including Wolves, Crystal Palace, Bristol City and MK Dons. Started coaching with West Brom's Academy and joined the first-team staff under Moore. Was also his assistant at Doncaster Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday.
- Jimmy Shan (First Team Coach): Began coaching at Birmingham City’s Academy and went from the U7s to the U23s with West Brom. Joined the Baggies first team staff under Moore in 2018 and took over as Caretaker Manager when Moore was sacked. Led them to the play-off semis but was replaced at the end of the season. Was reunited with Moore at Sheffield Wednesday.
- Simon Ireland (Set Piece Coach): Joined Huddersfield as a schoolboy in 1989 and made 12 starts and 11 substitute appearances for the club. Coaching career started in January 2008, when he joined the Blackburn Rovers Academy. This is where he first worked with Moore, who was First Team Coach at the time. Worked at Brighton, QPR and Nottingham Forest before rejoining Moore at Wednesday in August 2021.
- Adriano Basso (Goalkeeper Coach): Began his playing career in his home country of Brazil before moving to England and playing non-league with St Albans City and Woking. Moved higher up the pyramid to play for Bristol City, Wolves and Hull City. Coaching career started at Hartlepool United in 2017 and he went on to work for Nuneaton Borough, Grantham Town, Bury and Barnsley before joining Moore at Sheffield Wednesday in 2021.
Huddersfield Sporting Director Mark Cartwright said: “We were very clear in the skillsets that we wanted from our new manager, and Darren hit the key points.
“We wanted a manager who has a proven track record of high performance, and Darren’s record in sometimes challenging circumstances has been fantastic. We also wanted someone whose playing style fits the squad we have now, and the one we will develop together in the future.
"Darren doesn’t just play an attacking brand of football; he has a track record of making teams even more attack-minded the longer he works with them. The ability to manage a squad was also of paramount importance.
"Darren’s track record of growing, developing, and improving squads through a joined-up strategy of player recruitment and working with talented young players is perfect for us over the longer term.
“We’ve got a great platform to build from here and I’m excited to work closely with Darren and his team to build on those foundations.”
