Merron appointed first-team physio at Man Utd

RICHARD MERRON has stepped up to become Manchester United’s first-team physio following a reorganisation of the club's medical personnel.

Merron swaps places with Neil Hough, who has moved to the Academy to head up their physiotherapy department. Hough joined United in 1999 and replaced Rob Swire as first-team physio in July 2014.

Physio Jonny Picot has followed Merron from Academy to first team. Meanwhile, Venezuelan Carlos Lalin, who worked with manager Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid and Chelsea, now has an expanded Head of Fitness role.

Head of Performance Tony Strudwick, who has been at United for a decade, is now primarily involved with the Academy.

In an interview with the Sunday Times today, Mourinho emphasised how he was trying to focus on the present rather than the past and had made sure the Carrington training ground was redecorated with images of recent triumphs.

“[There are] new pictures on the walls of my players with the Europa League, with the Capital Cup, at Wembley, against Amsterdam,” he said.
