STEVE McCLAREN has stepped down from his role as Technical Director at Derby County, although he will remain at the Championship club in a part-time consultancy basis.

The former England manager, 60, held discussions with the club's joint administrators on Monday over his position. He made the offer to vacate his full-time post in order to help preserve other jobs across the club, which went into administration on Wednesday.

A club statement read: "The talks between both parties were amicable and as part of those discussions the club’s joint administrators expressed their desire to retain McClaren on a part-time consultancy basis.

"It was agreed that McClaren will continue to act as a senior advisor as the club and joint administrators look to navigate through the administration process. His work and assistance over the last 10 months in preparing for potential new ownership has been, and will continue to be, valuable as the club looks to move forward in both the short and long-term."

McClaren was appointed as both advisor to the board and Technical Director in November 2020. It was the fifth time he has been employed by the Rams, having previously been a player, assistant and manager for them.
