A SENIOR member of Jose Mourinho's back-up staff has moved to an Academy role.

Neil Hough, the first-team head physio at Manchester United for the last three years, has switched to the same position with the youngsters. His replacement in the first team has not yet been announced.

Hough first joined United in August 1999 as assistant physio in the Academy. In 2006 he was promoted to first-team assistant, before replacing the long-serving Rob Swire as head in July 2014.

Matt Radcliffe was briefly brought in from Southampton as an injury-prevention specialist by Louis van Gaal in October 2014, only to depart eight months later.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said: "Neil has been with the club since August 1999. He brings a wealth of experience to the role and it is a real vote of confidence in the work of Nicky Butt and Nick Cox to restructure the Academy that Neil has agreed to join."

The club has not yet announced Hough’s replacement as head first-team physio - but Mourinho is sure to have a major say.
