JOHN-MARK SISMAN has been appointed to the new role of Performance Physicist by Manchester City.
Brian Prestidge, who heads up City’s data science department as Director of Insights & Decision Technology, tweeted the news today.
“It’s an absolute pleasure to welcome @JohnMarkSisman to the team today, in the role of Performance Physicist," the Scot wrote. "JM’s creativity, technical expertise, football knowledge and personal behaviours will be a fantastic addition to CFG for years to come #Welcome #CFG #ManCity.”
Sisman is a physics graduate from University College London. City advertised the role, which combines physics and football, in January and February.
At the time, Prestidge said: “We are looking for a curious and imaginative physicist with a passion for deriving actionable insights from football data to join our Data Insights & Decision Technology team.
“This Performance Physicist role will see the successful candidate enhance upon and accelerate the application of physics-based concepts that have been developed at City Football Group over the last four years in order to solve football-focused performance challenges.”
The position is based at the City Football Academy in Manchester and was advertised as coming “with a competitive salary in line with the physics industry.”
Last month, City announced that Ravi Mistry was joining them as a Football Intelligence Officer. Prestidge said Mistry would be "leading the analytical development of our practitioners and advancing our football intelligence capabilities".
