LEYTON ORIENT have appointed former player and manager Martin Ling as their new Director of Football.

The news comes less than 24 hours after the club was taken over by the Eagle Investments consortium, led by Dunkin' Donuts chief executive Nigel Travis.

Ling played for the O’s between 1996 and 2000 and then managed them from 2003 to 2009. He has been out of football since leaving Swindon for health reason in 2015.

Travis, who is the club’s new chairman, said: “Martin’s immediate goals are to develop the squad for next season and appoint a first team coach. His deep ties to the Club will help him build on Leyton Orient’s heritage of developing strong young talent through its academy.

“Longer-term, along with the new management team, Martin is committed to return Leyton Orient to its winning days.”

Orient are also working to recruit an experienced Chief Executive to take responsibility for the day-to-day commercial management of the club.
