WEST HAM have hired Tim Steidten from Bayer Leverkusen to become their new Technical Director.
The 44-year-old will be responsible for the club's “overarching player recruitment strategy and scouting department."
In a statement, West Ham went on to describe Steidten as “one of the game’s most-admired football administrators”, with “added experience of European football.”
The Hammers already have a Sporting Director in the form of Mark Noble, who took up the role in January. At the time, West Ham said their former captain's remit would involve “Academy development, player recruitment and player and staff wellbeing,” although he had no previous experience of football administration.
It is now clear that Steidten will take the lead role on recruitment. The German developed his reputation working for Werder Bremen from 2008 from 2019, rising from youth scout to Head of Sport (Sporting Director).
He then joined Leverkusen, initially as Head of Scouting and Recruitment, before becoming Manager Sport (Sporting Director) last June.
West Ham manager David Moyes said: “On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to welcome Tim to the West Ham United family. He has a strong track record in elite level football and we’re really looking forward to working with him.”
Joint-Chair David Sullivan said: “Our goal when we became custodians of West Ham and moved to London Stadium was to bring silverware to this incredible club and to regularly compete in European football. We’ve enjoyed some fantastic times in recent seasons, and we aim to continue to grow and evolve across all areas of the club.
“Tim’s appointment is key to our wider plans to drive our football strategy forward. We are delighted to welcome such a well-respected name in the game to the club.”
Steidten added: “I am extremely proud to be joining West Ham at such an exciting time in this club’s incredible history. Building on the club’s recent European success, there is already a fantastic team in place, but also so much ambition – from the Board, the manager, his staff and the players – to continue succeeding, developing and growing. I cannot wait to play a key part in that.”
