Leicester City Under-21s boss Ben Petty is leaving the club after eight years to become assistant to Chris Davies at Birmingham City.
Petty joined Leicester in 2016 from Aston Villa, where he was an Academy coach, to become U21s assistant to Steve Beaglehole. In 2021 he was promoted to the main job.
During this time he worked closely with Davies, who moved to Birmingham earlier this month to take his first senior Head Coach job. Davies was assistant to Brendan Rodgers at Leicester from 2019 to 2023 before spending last season as number two to Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham.
In a statement, Leicester said: “Ben leaves with the thanks of everyone at Leicester City for his contribution to the Club’s Development Pathway over the last eight years and best wishes for the next step in his career.”
Davies said: “Firstly, Ben is an exceptional coach and his record of developing and improving players, speaks for itself. Equally as important to me, is that he is exactly the type of character who will help bring success to the club.
“His work ethic, standards and values reflect what I believe in and what we want to add to the culture here.”
In the SQL Masterclass, Edd Webster shows you how to access and manipulate datasets for football and player performance.
SQL is a programming language that communicates with databases and is essential for anyone looking to get away from clunky Excel-based reporting and fully utilise Big Data.
Meanwhile, Leicester have lost another key member of staff in Lead Data Scientist Edd Webster (pictured below), who departs after 15 months to join Ludonautics, the analytics consultancy set up by former Liverpool Head of Research Ian Graham.
Webster joined Leicester in April 2023, effectively replacing Mladen Sormaz, their first Head of Analytics. Webster had previously worked for City Football Group, West Ham and LEGO Group.
At Ludonautics his title will be Senior Data Scientist and he joins a growing number of staff at the consultancy. In March, we reported that Sunderland Lead Data Scientist Akhil Shah and Twenty3 Head of Engineering and Data Science David Perdomo Meza had both joined Ludonautics.
Webster delivered a SQL Masterclass for TGG last year, which you can watch HERE.
