MATT KONOPINSKI has stepped down as Rangers Head of Medical for family reasons after 10 months at the club.

The physio left the Football Association in January to join the Glasgow giants, but working a long way from his young family in south Liverpool has proved difficult.

Konopinski was appointed in January after 16 months at the FA, where he had worked with the England U18, U19 and U21 teams.

At the time, Rangers Sporting Director Ross Wilson said: “We already have some excellent people here and the ability to grow and reinforce that support around our teams during the winter break is a further boost to the quality of our football operation."

The move to Ibrox had reunited him with manager Steven Gerrard and Head of Performance Jordan Milson, with whom he had worked during a decade at Liverpool.

Steve Walker, who has been with Rangers for more than 17 years, remains as senior first-team physio.
