MATT KONOPINSKI has been appointed temporary Head Physio at Liverpool following the departure of Andy Renshaw last month.
Renshaw had been at the club for more than eight years. He joined from Bolton in 2009, first as Academy physio, before being promoted to Head Physio in June 2016.
Konopinski himself has been at Anfield for almost a decade, having joined from Barnsley in 2008. He was initially with the Under-21s, before being promoted to first-team duties four years later.
His specialism is rehab, leaving Richie Partridge as the man who runs on the pitch to treat injured players on matchday.
In October, Renshaw gave an in-depth interview to the Rousing the Kop website in which he outlined the progress that had been made on injury prevention during his time at the club.
“I started [current role] in July 2016, and during that season we reduced preventable injuries by 63% compared to the season prior. The days missed due to these reduced from 623 days for season 2015/16 to 144 days missed during 2016/17.
“The number of these injuries also reduced from 30 in 2015/16 to 11 in 2016/17. In 2015/16 there were 17 hamstring injuries. Last season we had three.”
