Hudl buys performance analysis firm InStat as expansion continues

HUDL has acquired performance analysis company InStat, which serves more than 2,000 teams in major leagues including the NBA, NHL and Premier League.

Sam Lloyd, Hudl's Senior VP of Elite Business, said the deal “enables us to broaden our offering in many sports, including ice hockey, basketball and handball” and “will also accelerate our ability to provide advanced data for football in emerging leagues.”

InStat was founded in Moscow in 2007 by Alexandr Ivansky and now has offices in Philadelphia and Dublin. Its analysis tools for players, coaches and media feature advanced data and video, including statistics linked to playlists.

Hudl says it is building “the world's most powerful network of sports video and data” and has expanded significantly in recent years. In July 2019 it acquired video analysis, data and recruitment platform Wyscout and in May 2022 bought performance monitoring company RealTrack.

Hudl works with more than six million users, 200,000 teams and 40 sports worldwide. It has more than 3,500 employees operating out of 17 countries.

“InStat’s solutions will expand our multi-sport analysis solution and ensure organisations of all sizes never miss a moment [and] the move is part of Hudl’s strategic focus on helping customers succeed in a highly competitive global sports market,” the company said in a statement.

“By automatically delivering advanced video and data, reducing risks with data-driven decisions and unearthing talent from a global database, professionals can dedicate more time to the other responsibilities of their roles - all while being equipped with deeper insights than ever before."
