Hitchen exits Tottenham after five years

TOTTENHAM’S Technical Performance Director, Steve Hitchen, has left the club after five years.
The 45-year-old initially worked for the club as a scout from 2005 to 2010 before returning in February 2017 as Chief Scout.
In September 2020 he was promoted to the unusual title of Technical Performance Director, with a focus on “building capabilities to support a world-class football infrastructure across senior and youth teams."
Hitchen, who was a professional footballer for nine years before moving into scouting and recruitment, was appointed to Tottenham’s new ‘Football Board' at the same time.
However, following the arrival of Italian Fabio Paratici as Managing Director Football (another unique title) in June 2021, Hitchen’s influence at Tottenham has waned and he requested to be released from his contract.
The existing members of the Football Board are Chairman Daniel Levy, Paratici, Rebecca Caplehorn (Director of Football Administration and Governance) and Matthew Collecott (Operations and Finance Director).
In a three-line statement released this evening, Tottenham confirmed that Hitchen had left the club and said: “We thank him for his work over the years and wish him well for the future.”
Reports have linked Hitchen with Everton, who are without a Sporting Director, Head of Scouting and Head of Recruitment.
